  Allen Roy NISSEN, (son of Hans Johannes Trules NISSEN and Florence Harriet SWARZES /MATTHEWS) born 4 July 1924 St Peters, NSW. He was born profoundly deaf and attended the school for the deaf till it was closed by the war. When he was young he would bang his head against the wall in frustration at his deafness and his inability to communicate. He loved exploring the bush and became very much at home there. When he was home his sister, Dot, took special care of him. After hurting his back working in a factory he went on the pension. He had no permanent home and for a long time he lived rough on the Central Coast and spent his time fishing. He could never accept his deafness and resorted to drinking too much. His mother and his sisters tried to help him as much as they could but he became very difficult to handle at times. He never married. He died in a nursing home in Strathfield, NSW, on 2 August 1997. His ashes were put in his father’s grave in Point Clare.
